Changes to Waste Collection over the Easter Weekend

East Dunbartonshire residents are being advised of slight changes to their recycling, food and garden waste collection services on Good Friday (14 April) and Easter Monday (17 April).

All general waste collections will operate as normal, however, residents who receive a collection of recycling, food or green waste on a Friday or Monday will experience a delay in service, with collections taking place a day or two later than usual.  All Saturday and Sunday collections will remain unchanged. 

If your recycling, food or green waste bin is normally collected on a Friday, it will now be done on Saturday or Sunday. If it’s normally on a Monday, we will collect it on Tuesday or Wednesday. Householders should present their bins for collection as usual and leave them kerbside until they are uplifted.

Bin Collections Over Christmas and New Year

Nobody wants to miss their bin day, particularly at Christmas, so here are those all important dates. 

For residents who receive a collection on a Friday, (Christmas Day and New Year’s Day) refuse and recycling collections will be running two days later on the Sunday.  
 
Collections on all other days will be on their usual day.

The latest newsletter from East Dunbartonshire Council's Land Planning Team has been published on the Council's website at http://www.eastdunbarton.gov.uk  The newsletter gives an update on the Local Development Plan.

The association spoke with the Council recently about street litter bins and bins in local parks. These bins are emptied now only as and when required; all of the Council's waste disposal staff are meant to empty these bins as they go about their jobs. We will need to be vigilant and if there is a bin which needs emptied we should all feel free to contact the Council and let them know.

We can expect to see accumulations of leaves in the estate being cleared over the next few days and into next week.

A public consultation meeting on Phase 2 of the Bears Way Cycle Way is being held on Thursday, 19th November from 03.00 pm to 08.00 pm. It is being held in Kessington Hall. It is a drop-in session.

A consultation meeting on Improving People's Services in North West Glasgow is being held on Tuesday 17th November in Yoker Community Campus from 06.00 pm to 08.00 pm. Proposed changes in service provision are likely to have implications in the longer term for GP Out of Hours Services at Drumchapel Hospital; the provision of such services is the subject of a national and local review.

Green bin collections

Green bin collection starts from the week commencing Monday 2nd March, which means the first uplift for Mains Estate will be Thursday 5th March.

New waste and recycling collection arrangements

We have received notification of roadshows that are due to take place with regard to the new waste uplifts and the introduction of food recycling:

Thursday 7 March 2013, 10 am - 4 pm at Asda, Bearsden
Saturday 9 March 2013, 10 am - 4 pm at Tesco, Milngavie
Saturday 6 April 2013, 10 am - 4 pm at Tesco Milngavie
Sunday 28 April 2013, 10 am - 4 pm at Tesco, Milngavie
Tuesday 30 April 2013, 10 am - 4 pm at Asda, Bearsden
Sunday 5 May 2013, 10 am - 4 pm at Tesco, Milngavie
Saturday 25 May 2013, 10 am - 4 pm at Asda, Bearsden

There will also be evening drop in sessions on Monday 15 April 2013 at St Joseph's Primary School and Wednesday 17 April 2013 at Bearsden Primary School. Both these sessions run from 6.30 pm - 8.30 pm.

These sessions will provide householders with information regarding the replacement of the blue and black recycling boxes with two slimline wheelie bins. One new wheelie bin will be blue and used to collect card and paper only. The other will be brown and will be used to collect cans, plastic bottles and glass only.

One week the two new wheelie bins will be collected with the recycling and the following week the grey general waste bin will be collected. Therefore, to summarise, these bins will go to fortnightly collection on alternate weeks.

The fortnightly garden waste collection from the green bin will not change.

Householders will be issued with two new food caddies, one for inside the property and one for outside. It is intended that waste food should be collected inside the internal food caddie and then emptied into the outside kerbside caddie which will be collected weekly.
